LEGAL ADVOCACY & ORGANIZING DEPARTMENT
Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s Legal Advocacy and Organizing Department’s mission is to integrate civil legal services into our programs for children and families, homeless and formerly homeless individuals, older adults and disabled individuals in order to reach those in our community who lack the means to secure their civil legal rights. Our Department takes a team approach to service, with lawyers, social workers, educators and advocates working together to address the many facets of our clients’ needs.

Issues addressed include:

Housing
Rights of Rent Regulated Tenants, Holdover Proceedings, Non-Payment Proceedings, Emergency Rent Assistance, Obtaining Repairs via HP Actions, Section 8, NYCHA and SCRIE.

Public Benefits and Entitlements
Public Assistance, Food Stamps, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security Benefits (Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), EPIC, Child Health Plus and Family Health Plus.

Employment Law, Unemployment Law, Wage & Harassment, Workplace Safety, Unlawful Discrimination.

Advance Directives Clinic for Seniors
Drafting of simple wills, living wills, health care proxies and durable powers of attorney.

Each Month, from September through May, at the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House 70th Street Senior Center (343 E. 70th Street at 1st Avenue). Please call to make an appointment at 212 744-5022, ext. 1245. This service is available for members of our two senior centers. Membership at the Senior Center is free.

HOW TO GET HELP
We serve individuals already receiving social service assistance and educational services from Lenox Hill Neighborhood House’s programs. We also serve low-income individuals who live, work, or go to school in our catchment area of East 59th to East 110th Streets, 5th Avenue to the East River, and Roosevelt Island. Individuals’ income must be below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Legal Walk-In Clinic Hours
Services are free, confidential and on a first-come first-first serve basis.
